Structural Bonding
The structural bonding of similar or dissimilar materials using structural adhesives and resins has expanded in the construction industry following a good track record in the aeronautical, marine and leisure industries.
The selection of the correct product is vital for long-term adhesion and durability.
Structural adhesives and resins can be used for various construction applications:
- Bonding adhesive/agent
- Chemical anchor
- Crack Injection
| - Wet/hardened concrete
- Timber
- Masonry
- Steel
|
Product selection should take into consideration the following as a minimum:
- Material types to be bonded
- Environment (wet, dry, hot, cold, UV exposure)
- Loading (compressive, shear, tensile, peel)
- Substrate preparation
- Thixotropy
- Application conditions
- Performance
- Durability
For most structural bonding, cold cured, thermosetting based adhesives or resins are used. These are generally epoxy 2-component products formulated for specific applications.
The Sikadur® and Sika® AnchorFix® range of products satisfies most bonding applications where a structural or non structural rigid connection between materials is required.
